Dar es Salaam - Mwanza by bus

Hello there

My name is Mathias,

I was wondering if there is still a problem with the train connection from Dar to Mwanza, if this is so what is the best, fastest alternative. And is there only Inter City Gold going to Mwanza from Dar?

Kind regards

Mathias Naeyaert

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Mathias,

Thanks a lot for your mail. Unfortunately, there's still no train running to Mwanza at the moment. However, there are decent and comfortable buses every morning at 6:00 AM from Dar es Salaam (Ubungo Bus Terminal 8 km from the city centre) to Mwanza. Fares are ranging from 40,000 to 45,000/= Tanzania Shillings (one way).

An advice in choosing a bus - go for the most expensive option.

E.g.: SUMRY HIGH CLASS

Fare (one way): Mwanza - Dar es Salaam; 45,000/= TSH

Departure from Mwanza: 6:00 AM from Nyegezi Bus Terminal (15 km from the city centre).
Departure from Dar es Salaam: 6:00 AM from Ubungo Bus Terminal.

Tickets in Dar es Salaam: Ubungo Booking Office is room number 18 & 40.

NOTE: Buy tickets at the booking office only.

Visa to Tanzania

Good Afternoon,
We require 2 visa application forms please.

Kind Regards

Dianne Wait-Kennedy

Dear Dianne,

Thanks for your mail, but where are you living?

Australia?

If, you don't need to apply for a visa in advance. A tourist visa (valid for 3 months) is issued at every entry point to Tanzania.

You need only US$ 50 in cash and a valid passport - no photo is needed.

But if you want to have a visa before you go, find the forms here:

Visa form #1

OR:

Visa form #2

Bus Dar es Salaam - Mwanza

Hello,

I want to travel from Dar to Mwanza, is it necessary to go through Kenya? Is the Scandinavia Group the only company running between Dar and Mwanza? How long does usually take from Dar to Mwanza and what's the price?

Thank you very much!
Manon (from France!)

Dear Manon,

Thanks for your mail. Scandinavia Express is not longer doing the Dar - Mwanza route via Nairobi.

I new company (Golden Inter-City) is operating via Morogoro, Dodoma, Singida, Nzega and Shinyanga. You don't need to pass Kenya and the duration is about 10 - 12 hours.

The bus will stop several times - offering breaks for buying food and drinks.

The rate is about 35,000/= to 40,000/= TSH and it departs at 6:30 AM from Ubungo Bus Terminal in Dar es Salaam. Buy your ticket in advance - and ONLY at the booking office in the bus terminal. DON'T buy your ticket on the street.

Welcome to Mwanza 'The City of Lake Victoria'.

BONUS info: 1€ = 1,904/= TSH.
